SOHH.com recently asked Maino about his fondest back to school memories. Take a look at what Maino had to say below.
“That was my whole reason of going the first week of school because I had the outfits which I don’t think is very good because we put too much emphasis on the clothes and the outfits then we do actually learning. That’s where I went wrong,” he said. “The first day of school was big for the hood because I was all about your clothes it wasn’t about nothing else. That’s why I went. I missed every day of the year but I went to the first day. Too much emphasis on the clothes it should be more on the actual learning because these kids need to really get their education. It’s important. I messed up half of my life because of that. I wasn’t thinking about class. I was thinking about going to school with the outfit on and how many people was going to see me.”

After several setbacks, IF TOMORROW COMES… has finally been released! “First, let’s acknowledge the haters that said that, ‘tomorrow’s never gonna come.’ I seen all that. I watched all that,” Maino told SOHH. “Why did I choose that title? For one, tomorrow is not promised to nobody but if it does come I want my tomorrow to be greater than my today.”
In anticipation of the “Million Bucks” video on its way, Maino had a few words about the record. “It was crazy. When Swizz first played it for me I said, ‘Come on Swizz, I don’t got a million dollars man.’ He said, ‘Nah, but I got a million dollars.’ And we laughed. I found a way to be me without trying to look like I was more rich than what I was portraying. I didn’t want to come off like I’m more richer than what I really am. It’s a song about trying to spread love in the hood and giving back so I made it more or less like that.”

Unlike some of the other Big Apple rappers, Maino receives a positive reception from southern fans. When asked why, Maino stated…
“You already know what I’m about, I’m a solider, I’m a rider, I’m a ghetto survivor, matter of fact, I’m all of the above, you feel me? Over here in Orlando, Florida, just got finished performing you know…A real n*gga always gonna get love no matter what. [I get love in the South] because I’m a different kind of, different design of n*gga. You understand what I’m saying? They gonna f*ck with me because I ain’t greetin’ all the people, I’ma come down and give ‘em me. I ain’t gonna come down here with some bullsh*t.” Maino’s IF TOMORROW COMES… drops June 30th, so don’t be a “Hater” & cop it when it drops!
