In a recent interview with Complex Magazine, Maino was quoted saying “There’s no representation of the new New York — it’s only the same people that have been here 10, 15 years.” He also added “I feel like I’m the face of the new regime … But I don’t want to bring New York back, I want to bring it forward.”

When asked about Brooklyn, Maino said over in his borough, he’s still 1992. “Brooklyn made me who I am today,” said the rapper. “It’s good to see all these nice modern complexes and apartments… But the working-class people, that’s struggling every day, can’t afford that. Maino was recently recognized in a major way as he was named #15 on MTV.com’s ‘28 In ‘08: Commercially Released Hip Hop Singles for his hit “Hi Hater”. Maino recently sat down with Murder Dog Magazine to let the world know what’s going on with him. Maino fills his fans in on what Atlantic Records has done for him that differed from other labels, as well as what the most important thing prison has taught him. Maino remains focused on being the best musician he can be, but aside from welcoming haters, the rapper puts his son above all. Maino told Sister2Sister Magazine, “I’m Zane’s (his son) hero. And it’s a lot of responsibility. Like I want to be there for him in a way that my father wasn’t there for me. So I try to teach him everything early. I tell him he will be better than me.
